Melissa is a passionate and empathetic MSW clinical fieldworker with an extensive background in recreation therapy. She understands the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being and applies a holistic approach to address the multidimensional aspects of her clients’ lives. Melissa creates a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. By fostering a collaborative therapeutic relationship, Melissa assists clients in exploring their goals, values, and personal narratives, helping them unlock their potential and create meaningful life changes.
Melissa is completing her Master’s degree in Social Work at Grand Valley State University. Her undergraduate degree is in Therapeutic Recreation. She worked as a Recreational Therapist at Pine Rest on inpatient units and partial programs for over 16 years.
Melissa has a passion for maternal mental health and life transitions. She was part of the team that created the Mother and Baby Program at Pine Rest in 2012. Melissa worked in the program for a little over 7 years. Melissa was mentored from some of the top leaders in the field of women’s mental health including Dr. Maria Muzik, Dr. Madhavi Nagalla, Nancy Roberts, RN, and others.
