Rachel VanBuskirk, LMSW

Life can be complicated. These complications know no economic, age, sex, religious or racial boundary. If you are currently working to navigate through a difficult time it would be my privilege to work alongside you to set goals and realize and regain your strengths to develop a long term plan for success.

If we are all honest with each other we can agree it is no simple task to be the best version of ourselves. I challenge myself with this daily and IT. IS. WORK. There are times when everyone needs to strengthen their coping skills, see the situation from another view, or simply 'say it out loud.' There are also times when the work that needs to be done is very serious. And deep. And difficult.

Along with my degree, license and clinical experience, I am a working mother, Army wife, daughter, sister and friend. I know that I have so much to be grateful for but I also have experienced losses, times of emptiness, times of anxiety. I get get stressed. I lose my patience. Our family has powered through deployments and worked through the fog of miscarriages. I know I obsess about silly things. I know I should get more sleep and be more active... I feel that all these things and the life experiences I have had with each of my roles has given me a unique insight and empathy to the variety of struggles one might face. My husband and I often look at each other and say "Wow. Never would have thought THAT would have happened to us." But things do happen... and will continue to happen. To all of us.

One of the life events I encountered left me feeling very alone. Alone and yet, I had friends and loved ones at an arm's reach. My struggles were too personal. I was not ready to say my story out-loud and yet I was struggling on the inside. Let me be the first to say - You are strong for taking this first step. Looking online at the various counseling options, I became overwhelmed with the idea of sitting in front of someone I did not know. Looking back now this is exactly what I needed. I needed an unbiased viewpoint and opinion of my struggle. Someone who would and could listen to my struggle without judging the decisions those around me made or the ones I made myself.

In my practice, I offer person centered therapy. I am committed to hearing you and working with you in a confidential, safe, nonjudgmental environment. As a practitioner working with individuals to empower them is my passion and privilege. I work with clients both young, old, and in between. Each phase of life is important and comes with its own unique set of stressors and complications. I support those going through affair recovery, relationship problems, anxiety, depression, grief, infertility, miscarriage, codependency, college issues, abuse issue, bereavement, coping and those facing chronic or terminal medical conditions.

No two people are alike. No two situations or experiences are alike. We all react, cope and learn from life experiences differently. I work alongside patients to make a personalized plan for long-term success.
